The Corrupted are beings infected with the Corruption Virus. They are “undead” monsters that wish to spread the sickness and expand the “family.” Though it’s not immediately apparent, the Corruption groups itself into a hierarchy.
- Child: An Oniyan who is not involved with the Guardians.
- Guardian: An Oniyan who actively works to spread the virus. They also actively protect any Nests or Clusters that are close by. A normal Guardian (or “Nero”) wears a full mask and behaves like a drone.
- Royal/Elite Guardian: A branch in the Guardian forces, these creatures are easily distinguished from a Nero in that they can choose to wear half a mask. They also have more control over their thoughts and actions.
- Noble Guardian: A Noble Guardian is even more distinguished from its Royal and Nero kin in that their true identity is pronounced. They wear their own variations of the Royal Guardian’s uniform, sometimes giving it an entirely new look by transforming the fluid used to make the uniform (the “parasite’s blood”) into whatever they’d like. These Guardians usually lead their own unit, using creative means to hide their unit if the need arises. A Noble is also in direct contact with Xenon Naginata.
- Nest Guardian: Any Guardian can become a Nest Guardian. These creatures are even more likely to behave like drones, almost as if they are marionettes. They are static until they detect movement. Interestingly, however, Nobles actively patrol the halls, swimming through the fleshy corridors of the Nest.
- Parasite Kings/Queens and Echoes: Similar to Corruption itself, Parasite Kings and Queens (as well as Echoes) give birth to Parasite eggs. However, Echoes are different in that they can birth Nests and fully-grown Parasites from any part of their body. They are the heads of the branches in the Hive Mind and are connected to Xenon Naginata, so much so that the virus itself seeps into their conscience. Echoes are directly infected with the virus’s pure essence and soul and as a result, assume his identity in their own unique way (i.e. Jason Cunningham). Their auras are black in color.
